THE MOONDANCE INN is located in Bellingham, WA. The client wanted to use a Cocopelli image, which is a Southwest Native American motif - dancing on the moon. I chose to blend a Northwest Native/Salish feel to the logo. During my research, I could not find any motifs of the human figure in the Salish tradition. We also wanted to imbue the logo with a lightness of feeling and being. I gave Cocopelli NW some eagle wings to give a little more air to his song. It was fun to explore the possibilities while marrying the Northwest and Southwest traditions.

We chose to go with a totally type-dependent identity with an old-timey feel for Ryan Stiles' UPFRONT THEATER located in Bellingham, WA. There's nothing bashful about the upfront, bold color scheme that visually rhymes with the comedic and improvisational performances at the Upfront Theatre. And yes, Ryan Stiles is funny in 'real life' too!

When SANDALWOOD SALON & SPA owner Toby-Lyn Heaven had to move her ever-growing AVEDA concept salon to a larger, high-visibility downtown location, she decided it was time to re-invent her business identity as well. Toby-Lyn had come up with the Sandalwood name, and during a brainstorming session at her home, I noticed a repeating antelope motif etched into a metal table imported from Morrocco - one of the fine pieces of imported furniture that now adorn the salon. I grabbed some paper and did a pencil rubbing of the motif; then used that as inspiration to re-draw motif to create the antelope logo. I hand-rendered the logo type which is loosely based on a font named "Aladdin." The type was born out of necessity: I needed a type treatment that would balance the flowing lines of the antelope. The antelope also makes a fanciful border motif we've used for a window treatment at the salon.

WATERSHIP TRADING COMPANIE designed and manufactured high-qulity outdoor sports hats, with a focus on sun protection, boating, golf, hunting and fishing. They promoted healthy lifestyles and were using recycled and re-used materials in some of their hats. The sailing and map motifs permeated many of our marketing and promotional materials: fun stuff!

NORTHWEST WINE EXPERTS (NWWE) are located near Portland, OR, serving the Oregon and Washington wine country, and offering winery tours and expertise for its clients. We came up with a 2-part branding solution for NWWE: the type-based 'badge' - and the 'wine expert' guy with the NWWE hair-do. We call him the "Einstein of Wine" – he was designed to be a humorous, distinctive graphic element in our marketing materials which were oriented towards drawing in a broader demographic than just the 'fine conoisseurs' of wine: pretty much everybody likes wine!

Located in Portland, Oregon Laurelhurst Fan Company puts a modern-day spin on home exhaust fans. Combining up-to-date technology with retro styles for their fans, Laurelhurst owners John and Nicole Hutmacher wanted a simple, bold, elegant branding with a classic feel and a minimalist modernism - with just a touch of fun. The bumble-bee color scheme of mustard and black suggests both functional dependability and a happy-go-lucky breezy feel . . . perfect for exhaust fans!

A World Institute for a Sustainable Humanity (A W.I.S.H.) provides models and support for life sustaining activities that integrate solutions to poverty and the environment while fostering self-reliance. A W.I.S.H. wanted a re-branding for their non-profit organization; one that reflected a shift from their initially regional North/South American regional focus, to an ever-expanding global outreach.
